Business expenses you CAN claim.

We wrote recently about all the common mistakes we find around business expenses, and those that you cannot claim back but many people think that you can. This time around, we’re going to share some information on expenses that you CAN claim back.

  • Subscriptions - If you are a member of a professional body related to your business or if you subscribe to a trade journal then this is an allowable expense and can be claimed back.

  • Home Office expenses - Items you’d normally use for less than two years can be claimed as allowable expenses, such as stationary, utilities and insurance. You can also claim for business software, printing and other business related items.

  • Business travel - You can claim business travel costs, so travelling to a meeting away from your regular workplace. Just a reminder though, you cannot claim travel to and from your regular place of work.

  • Marketing - Advertising, samples, website costs can all be claimed back as an allowable business expense.

  • Training costs - If related to your business then you can claim back training costs for you and your staff.

  • Legal and other professional fees - Fees for accountancy, bookkeeping, solicitors and other professional fees can be classed as business expenses.
